Red wine from France, Second wine from Château Pichon-Longueville - Appellation Pauillac, Vintage 2014
Les Tourelles de Longueville 2014 is the second wine of Château Baron Pichon-Longueville. Coming from the youngest plots of the estate, this vintage is a nice alternative to its elder since it benefits from the same quality of terroir and the same know-how of the winemaker. Classified as a second growth in 1855, this red wine with the Pauillac appellation of controlled origin blends 3 grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (30%). The grapes were harvested by hand in favourable conditions and aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
Les Tourelles de Longueville 2014 has a dark colour and a nose reminiscent of cooked prunes and roasting. On the palate, the unctuous tannins reveal themselves with suppleness and beautiful balance. The mid-palate evolves towards notes of candied black fruits and hints of liquorice, while the finish is cocoa. To appreciate a wider aromatic bouquet, this red wine has good ageing potential with a peak around 2024. It is served at an ideal temperature of 18°C and can accompany red meat or game dishes. It can also be excellent with a full-bodied cheese platter.
