Wine from the Bordeaux Region - Appellation Margaux - Vintage 2015
The Château d'Issan is a property of the Margaux appellation. Blason d'Issan is a red wine with a controlled designation of origin which is produced around the town of Margaux in the Médoc (Bordeaux region).
Château d'Issan has a long history. In 1152, it was this wine that was served at the wedding between Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England. The current castle, surrounded by moats, was built in the 18th century and is considered one of the most picturesque in all of Bordeaux.
Le Blason d'Issan Margaux from Château d'Issan was classified 3rd cru in the official Bordeaux classification of 1855 and is known for its rich in aromas and silky wine.
The estate is located just south of Chateau Margaux, and next to Palmer. Half of the property is in vines and 40 hectares under the Margaux appellation, the rest being located in AOC Haut-Médoc and AOC Bordeaux Supérieur. About 70% is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Merlot.
The Blason d'Issan, second wine, was introduced from 1995 to allow a selection among the vines of the Margaux appellation. The fruits of the youngest vines are used to produce this wine which respects the identity of its terroir, while offering a round and tasty fruitiness, which can be tasted earlier.
Beautiful and subtle nose, this wine is a blend of 2 grape varieties, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot. It often reveals types of aromas of cream, woody, or prune, and sometimes also aromas of cinnamon. Powerful, it finds a nice balance between acidity and tannins.
Château d'Issan should be enjoyed young with decantation. Younger vintages can be decanted for 2-3 hours on average, more or less.
Château d'Issan generally goes well with all types of classic meat, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck or game.
