Wine from the Bordeaux region - Appellation Saint-Julien - Vintage 2015
Built in 1870, Château du Glana is located in the Saint-Julien appellation in Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. The 60 hectares (148 acres) of vines are made up of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Plants take root in gravelly soil and Alios subsoils. This is still a young field. Its location, in the heart of a renowned terroir and a vineyard made up of parcels of Grands Crus Classés, promises a great expansion.
Château Du Glana is located on the "Route des Grands Vins". The Château, when it was created in 1870, already included 5 hectares of vines. After a series of owners and vineyard extensions, the property was acquired by Gabriel Meffre in 1961. Since it belonged to the Meffre family and thanks to the efforts and passion of this family, the Château and the vineyards of Glana progress year after year. Since then, there have been land takeovers.
The main purchases concern parcels from the third estate located nearby, Château Lagrange. The Meffre family still owns it. Jean-Paul and his two sons are responsible for managing the château and its vines. Each parcel of vines is managed individually and, after harvesting, the grapes are fermented under temperature control.
A cold maceration follows, with 3 weeks of vatting in concrete and stainless steel vats. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels (usually 40% new) to age for 12 months. Annual production levels of the great wine reach around 120,000 bottles. The second wine is the Pavillon du Glana. Château du Glana is renowned for being a fairly powerful, rather dry and tannic wine. Very elegant and very subtle, it goes very well with game, beef or lamb.
