Second wine of Château Camensac, Closerie de Camensac is the fifth Classified Growth of Haut-Médoc in 1855. Located on the edge of the Saint-Julien appellation on 75 hectares, Château Camensac is planted on an estate with 60% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 40% Merlot grape varieties. Its vines are spared from humidity by gravely sloping soils which promote good drainage. The average age of the vineyard is 30 years.

Jean Merlaut and Céline Villars-Foubet , from Château Chasse-Spleen, bought the estate in 2005. The vinification is carried out by the technical team of Claire Thomas-Chenard including the latest Cru shares an undeniable qualitative development. The oenologist Eric Boissenot also provides valuable advice.

This Cru Classé la Closerie de Camensac 2016 has beautiful aromas of black fruits with spicy notes. On the palate, it expresses notes of undergrowth and sweet spices. Its color is dark and limpid red and surprises us with a very intense aromatic bouquet. Its attack is frank on the palate and precise, with racy and silky tannins. There is remarkable finesse on the finish with flavors of peppermint and cloves. The vines are 35 years old and the aging lasts between 17 and 20 months in barrels.

This domain has remained in the shadow of certain Médoc wines. However, the regularity and the progress made by this Cru, make it a benchmark for lovers of great Bordeaux.
